1st Topic: Copyright Infringement
Copyright is the unauthorized or prohibited use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.
Copyright infringement occurs when someone other than the copyright holder copies the “expression” of a work. This means that the idea or information behind the work is not protected, but how the idea is expressed is protected. For example, there have been many movies about Pirates, but only one Jack Sparrow.
Copyright infringement can occur even if someone does not copy a work exactly. This example of copyright infringement is most easily apparent in music and art. Copyright infringement occurs if the infringing work is “substantially similar” to the copyrighted work.
I have learnt that any simple thing like downloading and coping other people's work for our own is copyright infringement. Hence, we should be careful of what we do in the internet in the future and make sure we do not copy other people's work unless permission is granted.
There are 5 types of internet addiction..
Cyber-relationship Addiction: Individuals who suffer from an addiction to chat rooms, IM, or social networking sites become over-involved in online relationships or may engage in virtual adultery.
Net Compulsions: Addictions to online gaming, online gambling, and eBay are fast becoming new mental problems in the post-Internet Era.
Information Overload: The wealth of data available on the World Wide Web has created a new type of compulsive behavior regarding excessive web surfing and database searches. Individuals will spend greater amounts of time searching and collecting data from the web and organizing information.
Computer Addiction: In the 80s, computer games such as Solitaire and Minesweeper were programmed into computers and researchers found that obsessive computer game playing became problematic in organizational settings as employees spent most days playing rather than working. These games are not interactive nor played online.
I have learnt that there are many different types of internet addiction and that all of it a very harmful to our health, as well as influencing our social and emotional behavior. I have also learnt that we have to limit ourselves to playing the computer and be disciplined so as not to influence on our school work academically and physically. Lastly, I feel that we should adopt good time management and follow a daily schedule so as not to get addicted to the computer.
